The HSE stimulators I is of modular construction and can therefore
be readily adapted to suit particular applications. A complete
series of modules is available to produce suitable combinations.
The high-powered output modules offer particular advantages.
The stimulation parameters can be set accurately and reproducibly
against a long scale and can in addition be selected in steps
over wide ranges.

Generation of a stimulus requires selection of at least two time parameters and one amplitude:
The appropriate timing modules and output modules provided for these purposes are:
These basic functions and basic modules are therefore to be
found in all four types of stimulators.
The different triggering modes (continuous stimulus trigger or
gated trigger) are produced on a special module (start mode).
Alternatively it is possible to connect up suitable triggering
circuits.
The various models can be assembled from different modules. The
output module can be a single-channel system (OVA) with voltage
and current output, or a 4-channel system (O4V or O4A) for organ
baths with several tissue vessels. Alternatively two timing circuits
(TR and TW) can be fitted to produce so-called trains
(stimulus groups) as required for stimulating smooth musculature,
for example. If none of those modules is selected, the spaces
provided in the stimulator remain empty and are closed by a blank
panel.
Specific modules for special customized applications are also available.
